As many as 200 golfers are expected at the inaugural Aba Sports Club 1926 Golf Section Captain’s Tournament in Aba, Abia.
The two-day tournament is scheduled to be held October 14-15 at Aba Sports Golf Club.
Nduka Nwachukwu, the new captain, Aba Sports Golf Club told NAN on Tuesday in Abuja, said everything is ready for its inaugural tournament as well as the new inaugural Lady Captain tournament with over 200 golfers from across the country expected to honor the event.
“I was elected on May 23 alongside my Lady Captain, Oluchi Ogejiofor to rock the ship of this great club for the next two years.
“As you know, it is a tradition in golf clubs to hold inaugural tournaments for the new Captain and Lady Captain. is a two day event.
“The arrival date as well as the practice round and the cocktail are scheduled for October 14.
“While the tournament proper will be held on October 15, the Captain and Captain Lady are expected to be inaugurated at the end of the tournament,” he said.
Nwachukwu noted that the two-day 18-hole stroke play event was an open tournament for all Nigerians.
He said that the Aba Sports Golf Course which will host the event was indeed a very beautiful building with a serene and welcoming environment.
“Our club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Eastern Nigeria and has a very challenging course with narrow fairways and many colonial trees, as well as new ones that have recently been planted.
“The club recently hosted and hosted over 237 golfers at the last Governor’s Cup and so we are prepared and ready to make this tournament an even bigger and more memorable event,” he said.
He noted that beyond the beauty and serene surroundings of the golf course, it was the commercial town that was the main attraction for visitors coming to Aba to play golf for the first time.
“The town boasts of very good tailors who are always on hand to make and deliver beautiful bespoke garments for our visitors in the shortest possible time.
“We also have specialists in making custom packaged shirts, belts and shoes.
“So Aba is indeed a very big business centre/hub for the textile and leather industry which can be had at a much cheaper price than you can get in any other part of the country.
“These are the main attractions for our visitors who come to play golf in Aba and indeed make our club stand out from the rest,” he said.
