Joaquin Niemann has shot the first two rounds of his life at the 2022 Genesis Invitational and takes a two-shot lead over Cameron Young in the final 36 holes of play at Riviera Country Club.

Perhaps the most amazing thing about Niemann’s pair of 63s is that Young leads Justin Thomas by three and the rest of the field by five. This means that Niemann is standing Seven on everyone except Young and Thomas.

When it comes to hunting packs, however, it’s great. Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland, Max Homa and Collin Morikawa are all currently in the top 10, and they are one bad turn away from Niemann being able to play in the tournament themselves.

There should also be chances. Riviera has played in such a way that the best ball hitters can get separated, and if you’re even a little behind it can be disastrous. This type of fast, firm course will continue throughout the weekend and should deliver the best (and perhaps even most entertaining) final 36 holes we’ve seen on this year’s West Coast swing.
