Landscapes Unlimited golf course development and construction company, golf course architect Tripp Davis and the Atlanta Athletic Club are partnering for a complete turnkey renovation of the venerable Riverside Course.

The AAC has a rich history of hosting the game’s top events, including the 1976 US Open, the 1990 US Women’s Open, the 1981, 2001 and 2011 PGA Championships and the 2014 US Amateur.

Work began in early January on changes to Riverside’s tees, fairways, greens and bunkers. Infrastructure improvements also include the installation of a new state-of-the-art irrigation system, sand covering of driveways and better drainage. AAFC’s Highlands route remains open during the project.

In addition to improved playing surfaces, the rebuild will create more strategic course-wide features offering multiple layout options to make games as challenging, fun and interesting as desired. While each hole is memorable, highlights include No. 4, a precision-focused par 4 with a seated green just above the Chattahoochee River, and No. 14, a passable par 4 with the river more in play as a hidden risk from tee to green.

Tripp Davis & Associates, Landscapes Unlimited and AAFC management began collaborating on strategies last year, with advance planning allowing generous lead time for purchases of pipe, sand and other materials to make up for delays. of the supply chain.

“I’m always thrilled to work with the very talented and organized team at Landscapes Unlimited,” said Davis. “Landscapes eases the construction management process, allowing me to spend more time on the creative details, which make all the difference to the playability and visual quality of the golf course.”

AAC is a homecoming for Davis who spent his childhood in Atlanta, where he learned golf history and how to play. Davis described his work for the legendary club AAC Bobby Jones called home, “a dream come true.”

Landscapes Unlimited will use its next-generation “M4” premium UAV/drone data service to map, measure, model and manage the project life cycle and budget. This technological advancement, complemented by ground survey equipment data, ranges from digital surface modeling and topographic contour mapping to full real-time documentation. M4’s sophistication fosters real-time, symbiotic and collaborative opportunities between Landscapes, TDA and AAC, from pre-construction to the grand reopening of the Riverside course.

“Long-term relationships are born of strong communications with ultimate transparency,” said Landscaped Unlimited’s COO Brian Vitek noted. “Tripp’s vision and deft creative touch, along with the institutional knowledge of AAFC led by its talented Director of Agronomy, Lucas Harveyis destined to make the AAC one of the best renovations in recent history.
