Sunday’s AT&T Byron Nelson is set for fireworks with hometown favorite Jordan Spieth in line to potentially win this tournament for the first time in his career. Spieth is a full-back for leader Sebastian Munoz and is aiming for his second consecutive victory after winning the RBC Heritage the week after the Masters.
After a so-so 67 on Thursday, he was dismissed 65-64 and is on course for back-to-back wins in his bid for the PGA Championship (and career Grand Slam) next week at Southern Hills. He’s not the only star of the mix, either. Joaquin Niemann is at two backs, Justin Thomas at three backs and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler lurks further with five strokes between him and Munoz.
It should be a lot of fun watching Munoz try to hold on to his lead, which was built largely on the superb 60s he shot in the first round. He’s in a good position to win again, but he’s got plenty to worry about as one of the sneaky good events of the year so far comes to an end and a major championship week begins as soon as this one- this ends.
