A caregiver support group is to be set up at the Seaton Memory Café, thanks to a donation of £ 800 from the ladies section of Ax Cliff Golf Club.

The support group will be launched during the first Memory Café session of 2022 on Monday, February 7.

2020 and 2021 female golf captains Barbara Cummings and Anne Jarvis said they decided to support the Memory Café because “many of us have had, or may have in the future, direct experience of loved ones living by day today with the effects of memory loss ”.

They said: “Knowing how caregivers and loved ones are affected by people with memory loss, we are delighted that our contribution is helping the Carers Support Group. ”

Memory Café president and volunteer coordinator, Yvonne Addington, called the donation “incredible.” She said it would help fund the café’s ongoing reminiscence program as well as the caregiver support group.

The Seaton Memory Café has been in existence for eight years and currently has 10 volunteers led by Yvonne. It benefits people with memory loss from several underlying conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body disease, and vascular dementia.

The cafe is open the first Monday of each month at Seaton Methodist Church in Valley Rise from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
