NEW PRAGUE – Victoria Woytassek and Morgan Eckman punched out a 1-2 punch to propel the Jordan Jaguars to a seven-stroke margin of victory over first-round leader Blue Earth Area in Tuesday’s second and final round of the section 2AA girls golf meet at New Prague Golf Club.
Blue Earth Area scored a total of 378 teams for first place last week, clinging to a one-stroke lead over Holy Family Catholic and three strokes over Jordan heading into the final 18 holes of the competition in New Prague.
Woytassek earned sectional medalist honors by carding a two-day total of 159, while Eckman earned second-medalist honors by shooting a 164 to beat Jordan’s 365-375 second-round advantage over Blue Earth. Area to reach an eventual winning margin of 746-753. St. Peter scored third with 759, while HFC was fourth with 780.
Blue Earth Area eighth-grade phenom Katelyn Storbeck and sophomore sensation Payten Gudahl, however, joined Buc boys golfer Ashton Lloyd in qualifying for the Class AA state golf tournament via top-five scores not tallied by members of the Sectional Championship roster.
Storbeck earned sixth place overall by penciling in two straight 91s en route to a 182. Storbeck connected on five team-leading pars to qualify for the state at Ridges Golf Course @ Sand Creek in Jordan on June 14 and 15.
Gudahl posted the seventh-best individual score at 93-90-183 to earn his ticket to statehood. Gudahl shot 44-46 on Tuesday, including a birdie on the par-4 third hole, to complete three pars.
Kylie Rosenau and Rylan Storbeck completed Blue Earth Area’s tally scores for the sectional competition. Rosenau finished tied for 10th place individually shooting a 96-95-191, including a 50-45 in the second round on Tuesday. Rosenau sank two pars to highlight his performance. Rylan Storbeck generated a total of 98-100-198, including 47-53 on Tuesday. Storbeck closed his 36-hole total with three pars.
Madison Ehrich produced a 201 in two rounds for Blue Earth Area, while Liz Beeler shot a 216. Ehrich shot 102-99, while Beeler shot 109-107 for the Bucs.
In the Section 2AA boys meet, BEA’s Ashton Lloyd advanced to the state meet by scoring a total of 162 in two rounds to claim the fifth and final qualifying spot. Lloyd opened with a 42-39-81 last week before closing with a 43-38-81 on Tuesday. Lloyd birdied the par-4 16th hole to complete an incredible par 10.
BEA’s Nathan Murphy finished 24th in the section finishing with a two-lap mark of 180. Murphy shot an 86-94, including a 46-48 on Tuesday at New Prague. Murphy birdied the par-4 eighth hole on Tuesday to go with three pars.
St. Peter’s Kaiden Brovold scored a total of 147 cards over two days to earn sectional meet medalist honors and a state bid, while PJ Herron and Mick Herron took second and third place respectively for propel Holy Family Catholic to the Section Tag Team Championship. PJ Herron shot a second 149, while Mick Herron took the bronze with a 152.
Holy Family Catholic shot a 615 to earn a Class AA state team bid, with St. Peter and Southwest Christian of Chaska sharing second section team honors at 643. Glencoe-Silver Lake ranked fourth at 669.
