ALPHARETTA, Georgia – Second year Kelly Chinn shot a 3-under 69 and the Duke men’s golf team sits 13th after the first round at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate after a team score of 3-of-291 through the first 18 holes of the Lakeside course. Chinn currently leads the Blue Devils in a tie for 12th place.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN

  • After an hour late frost in the morning, Kelly Chinn warmed up quickly on Friday, scoring four birdies on his first six holes of the day. The Great Falls, Va., native continued his day one charge on the leaderboard with two more birdies on the first three holes of the back nine, tied for the lead at 6 under. The second then finished with a 3-under 69.
  • Fresh off his co-medal at Georgetown Intercollegiate, Ian Sibers played the front nine at a steady pace and took the turn with a 2 of 38. A bogey-free back nine, complete with two birdies, saw Siebers finish his first 18 holes at 72 pair.
  • First-year student William Love bounced back from a slow start by making birdies on holes 8, 9, 12 before finishing at 2 of 74.
  • Luke Sample rounded out the team’s scores on Friday with a 4 of 76.
  • Also for Duke, Ethan Evans finished the first round with a 7 of 79.
