Colonels finish eighth in ASUN Championship
The colonels were led by senior Willis Gaer in his last college test.
ATHENS, Ga. –The Eastern Kentucky men’s golf team finished eighth in the 2022 ASUN Conference Championship in Athens, Georgia on Tuesday.
The Colonels shot a final round 299. EKU’s three-round total of 892 was six shots behind seventh place North Alabama (886). Eastern Kentucky finished ahead of ninth-place Kennesaw State (905) by 13 strokes.
No. 39 North Florida (848) was the wire-to-wire winner. Florida Gulf Coast (859) finished second, 11 strokes behind. No. 36 Liberty (861) was third, Lipscomb (867) was fourth and Jacksonville (868) rounded out the top five. Jacksonville State (874) placed sixth.
The colonels were led by senior Willis Gaer in his last college test. He shot a 2-over round of 73 and finished 23rd with a total of 221 (+8). Gaer birdied the third hole of the day and played most of the front nine to 1 under before a bogey on the No. 18 left him level on the turn. Coming into the front nine, Gaer birdied the par-3 No. 3 hole.
Reese Sexton had his best round, finishing with a 1-over 72. He birdied three on the first nine holes of the round and made the round at 1-under. The redshirt freshman is tied for 26th with a total of 223 (+10).
Francesco Guarneri also tied for 26th with a total of 223 after a final round of 78. Senior Lake Leroux tied for 40th with a three-day score of 229 (+16). First-year student Wil Griffin tied for 47th with a total of 234 (+21).
Central Arkansas (920), Stetson (921) and Bellarmine (925) complete the table of 12.
The three-day, 54-hole championship was played on the par-71, 7,258-yard University of Georgia Golf Course.
