SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The first round went to Pasatiempo.

The golf course above Santa Cruz on the Pacific Ocean was a brutal test for the 14 college golf teams at the 75and Annual Western Intercollegiate on Mondays. No one shot under par and the median score on the 6,615-yard par-70 course was nine strokes over.

Oregon stood in the middle of the menagerie at 31 and older. It was good enough to be tied for eighth after the first 18 holes.

No. 8 Pepperdine led the tournament at 18-plus but still has a hole to play to complete his first round on Tuesday. Texas’ No. 9 was over-21 and Washington’s No. 6 checked in at 23 over.

How did it happen: Owen Avrit led Oregon with a 4 of 74, while Greyson Leaching carded a 75. Nate Stember and Yuki Moriyama recorded with 76s. Avrit was tied for 19andLeach was tied for 23rd and Stember and Moriyama tied for 29and.
