GREENWOOD, Indiana – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2022 All-At-Large Academic District winners on Thursday, with Indianapolis University having a total of five student-athletes taking home the prestigious award.

Those who won the UIndy award were Catherine Graf (women’s golf), Anna Novikova (women’s tennis), Marizel van Jaarsveld (swimming & diving women), Cade Hammond (male swimming and diving) and Olivier Mast (men’s golf).

The Greyhounds were selected from a large number of nominees, as the combined men’s and women’s umbrella includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, ski, swimming and diving. , tennis, men’s volleyball, water polo and wrestling. The prestigious honor is awarded annually to recognize the region’s top student-athletes for their combined athletic and classroom performances.

Elected by the country’s Director of Sports Information, eligible student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and have achieved sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution. Academic All-District® winners will go through Google Cloud Academic All-America® voting, and national winners will be announced next month.

Graf was a 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) medalist and first-team All-GLVC selection. Most notably, she shot 73 in this year’s GLVC match play final to help the Hounds win a 10th straight conference title. In addition to her impressive play on the course, Graf has thrived in the classroom as she has won All-GLVC Academic Honors twice and the GLVC Brother Gaffney Distinguished Scholar Award twice. She was also a 2020 WGCA All-American Scholar and recipient of the Elite 90 Award at the 2022 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship. Graf holds a GPA of 4.00 in finance.

Novikova, who helped lead the women’s tennis team to back-to-back NCAA DII national semifinal appearances, is a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American in doubles and a two-time ITA All- American singles. Last year, she was selected to the 2021 ITA Collegiate All-Star Team with her role in a No. 1 doubles ranking. Most recently, she was selected as the 2022 GLVC Player of the Year and earned All-GLVC honors for the third time in her career. Her hard work in the classroom and on the court also helped her become a three-time ITA Division II Scholarly Female Athlete in her career. Novikova earned a 3.87 GPA in her undergraduate (Business Administration and Marketing) as well as a 4.00 GPA in her graduate studies (Finance).

Van Jaarsveld adds another impressive accolade to his already well-filled trophy at UIndy. In the pool, she was a four-time NCAA DII National Champion and in 2021 was the first female Greyhound in the history of the UIndy swimming and diving program to win a national title. Other accolades she has earned include being a 14-time GLVC champion, 11-time All-GLVC First Team honoree, and 19-time All-American selection. She was also recently named a College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-America Scholar All-America selection for the third time in her career. Van Jaarsveld studies psychology with a GPA of 3.87.

Hammond was crowned the 2022 NCAA DII national champion in the men’s one-metre diving event and also placed fourth in the three-metre event at this year’s championships. Last season he was the second DII in the meter and during his career he also won two second places in the meter at the GLVC Championships. His success on the diving board and in the classroom helped him earn back-to-back CSCAA Scholar All-America honors in 2020 and 2021. Hammond studies criminal justice with a 3.73 GPA.

Earning a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Third Team last year, Mast adds yet another impressive academic achievement to his name. He recently set a pair of school records on the golf course with a single round 63 and a -15 score over 54 holes to win the West Liberty Invite in early April. He finished tied for ninth individually at the 2022 DII National Championship and helped lead UIndy as a team to a national semi-final appearance in 2021. He was the recipient of the 2021 GLVC Paragon Award which selects a male student-athlete and women in the conference based on “academic excellence, athletic ability and achievement, character and leadership”. Mast earned an undergraduate GPA of 3.70 (Business Administration) and holds a GPA of 4.00 (Strategic Leadership and Design).

All five Greyhounds are now eligible to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, to be announced at a later date.
