RICHMOND, Virginia – GW golf wrapped up play at the VCU Shootout on Tuesday, finishing third among 14 competing teams with a 35-under-par 829 at Tuckahoe Creek Course in Richmond, Va.

As a team, GW’s team score of 829 broke the 25-shot program’s 54-hole record, a record dating back to 2017 at the Phoenix Invitational.

Jakub Hrinda paced GW with an impressive second-place finish that saw the senior score a 14-under 202. Hrinda led all teams on all four holes, averaging 3.70, the lowest in the tournament. Hrinda recorded 37 pars and 14 birdies to boast the second-lowest score in the season opener. Hrinda finished just one stroke behind Matthew Feinstein of William & Mary, who finished in first place.

“It’s really fun to be part of this team,” Hrinda said. “It hurts to miss a shot, but that’s golf, and we’re all excited for the next few weeks.”

Hrinda’s 202 set the all-time record of 54 holes in the history of the GW golf program by four strokes.

In his debut with Buff & Blue, Rodrigue Barahona tied for fifth with an 11-under 205, which saw the freshman score 17 birdies over three rounds of play, good enough for second place among all golfers.

“It was a solid start,” Barahona said. “I felt really confident with my game and I was confident that the rest of the guys were supporting me as well.”

“Wow, what a start! I knew we would be competing this year, but I’m delighted that we were able to overcome some barriers in the first week,” said the head coach. Chuck Scheinost. “It’s heartbreaking to be so close after a few days of fighting, but the guys played amazing from the first tee today.

“There are so many positives to take away from this tournament, and we have to hold our heads up high. We will get back into this position and can build on this experience.”
