It’s the start of the four-week Florida swing and Barry Plummer has everything you need to know
The Genesis Invitational turned out to be a runaway win for Joaquin Niemann, and while I was disappointed with how my tips performed last week, it was still going to be tricky after Fitzpatrick’s 11th-hour withdrawal. With a full list of three picks on the tip sheet this week, I’m taking a closer look at the Honda Classic and the notoriously tricky PGA National. But, before moving on to my free betting tips…
Details of the Honda Classic
Location: PGA National (Champion Course), Florida, USA
Dated: March 18-21, 2021
Course statistics: normal 70; 7,140 meters.
Course Summary: A strategic test that requires precise approach play and constant scrambling. Water is in play on 15 holes, which can cause players headaches when the wind blows. Bermuda’s large greens are fast and heavily contoured, and this course currently ranks as the toughest venue outside of major championships. So who can safely trade the Bear Trap?
Stock Exchange: $8 million
Defending Champion: Matt Jones (-12)

Honda Classic Golf Betting Tips
Bazza Banker: Daniel Berger – Win 4pt @ 16/1 with Bet365
The key to success at PGA National is hitting the ball, so who better to kick off the preview than Berger? Two top 4 finishes in six starts on this tricky track is a feat, and its recent form is also very appealing. Two top-7s and a top-20 in his last four starts make him a justified second favorite in betting, and at a slightly more attractive price point, I’ll definitely take him over Sung-Jae Im.
Over the past three months, Berger has ranked 9th for SG: Approach and 10th for SG: Tee-to-green, which as I gushed earlier is a great indicator of success. With four PGA Tour wins, including one in each of the past two seasons, Berger should be in the game on Sunday.
The one-sided game: Shane Lowry – 2pt e/w @ 33/1 with Bet365
The start of the 2022 season brought with it an in-form Lowry, who launched him on the PGA Tour this week after four straight top-25 finishes on the DP World Tour. The former champion golfer of the year certainly knows how to negotiate the expected wind, and four cuts in four visits to PGA National will certainly give confidence.
Lowry is suitable for the task in terms of recent stats, ranking 3rd from the field for SG: Tee-to-green and 7th from the field for SG: Approach. If Lowry can find some form with the putter this week, he should play a big role at a high price.
The Longshot: Aaron Wise – 1pt e/w @ 50/1 with Bet365
In my opinion, this is a very high price for Wise. Only recently did he manage to rack up seven consecutive top-26 finishes, including two top-10 finishes in the CJ Cup and the Shriners Open. Strong performances at the 2021 play-offs show Wise has the ability to tackle tough courses, as evidenced by a 13th-place finish at this event last year.
If you include that impressive seven-event streak, Wise has some pretty impressive stats as well. Over the past six months, Wise has ranked 26th for SG:Total and earned on-court shots in all key metrics. With just one PGA Tour victory under his belt, I have a feeling he could take another step in his exciting career at the Honda Classic.
