CHAMPAGNE, Ill. – The Illinois Women’s Golf Team continues its spring schedule as the Illini heads south for the ICON Invitational in Houston, Texas on Monday and Tuesday, February 21-22.

The ICON Invitational will be held at the Golf Club of Houston, with a course set up for a par 72 and a length of 6,247 meters. Founded in 2003, the Club has two 18-hole courses, both of which hosted the Houston Open. The tournament course open to members and the public was designed by Rees Jones and David Toms. As enjoyable to play as it is beautiful, the Tournament course has an abundance of native plants and wildlife and features finely manicured fairways, well-designed greens and challenging bunkers.

There will be 15 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament with 36 holes of continuous play on Monday (February 21), followed by the final 18 on Tuesday (February 22). Both days will feature a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT.

Besides the Illini, the 15-team field includes host Houston, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan State, Mississippi, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Purdue, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech and USC.

This will be the first time the Illini will participate in the ICON Invitational.

Illinois finished action at the two-day, 54-hole Columbia Classic on Feb. 13-14, placing fourth after posting a tournament total of 886 (+22) at Duran Golf Club’s 6,357-yard, par-72 .

The Illini had three players in the top 20 in sophomore year Isabelle Sy led the way with a tournament total of six of 222 after carding a three of 75 in the third round, as freshman Lexanne Halama moved up 10 spots with one of 73 on the final day to record a career-best result as she tied for 15th with a seven of 223. Junior Siyan Chen finished tied for 19th with a total of eight of 224 tournaments, posting a five of 77 that day. Senior Crystal Wang shot in a four-under 68 in his second round, tying his season low for just one round.

The Illins Then, take part in the Briar’s Creek Invitational, which will be held at Briar’s Creek Golf Club in Johns Island, SC, on March 14-15.
