Jeff Posze was a buzzsaw on the first six holes of the 12th annual Jacksonville Area Golf Association Match Play Championship final on Sunday.

But a superb tee shot by Jeff Golden on the 358-yard par-4 seventh hole sparked a rally and Golden eventually took the lead and stayed ahead on his way to a 3-and-1 win at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

Golden, a former Florida State Golf Association Player of the Year, finished 3 in six holes after Posze birdied the first two holes on short putts and Golden fired his tee shot on the par-6 hole. -4 out of bounds.

But Golden then drove the green to No. 7 and putted twice for a birdie to cut Posze’s lead, then turned to steady par progression and went 2-up when Posze bogeyed the No. 9, 10, 11 and 13.

Golden’s lead slipped to 1-up when he hit his tee shot on the par-4 14th hole in the water, but recovered that hole when he drilled a 30-foot birdie putt at the n ° 16 and that Posze missed by 10 feet. Posze then hit his tee shot at No. 17 in the water and conceded the hole and the game after missing a long par attempt.

Golden reached the championship game beating Graham Nichols 4 and 3, Ryan Wharton 1-up, Mike Smith, 2016 Match Play Champion and reigning JAGA Amateur Champion 1-up and John Makarauskas 2-up.

Posze beat Kipp Henritzky 3&2, James Tisdale 5&3, defending champion Mark Spencer in 20 holes and Moses Compaan 1-up.

Compaan beat Makarauskas 6 and 5 in the consolation match.
