Lacey City Council has approved a contract to develop Phase 1A of Greg Cuoio Park. at its meeting last night.

City Capital Projects Engineer Ashley Smith told council that Phase 1A includes design and planning services for future tenders, physical works for two driveway entrances, a 18-hole disc golf course and the initial phase of a playground. The $734,321 contract is with HBB Landscape Architecture of Seattle.

Smith said the driveways would include entrances for emergency vehicles and public access with parking spaces.

Mayor of Lacey, Andy Ryder, has expressed his optimism that a disc golf course will be built in partnership with the Professional Disc Golf Association.

“You mention this [disc] golf course which is, of course, very exciting for a lot of people in and out of our community,” Ryder said. “It will be a style championship [disc] golf field.”

After a “community-driven” process, Council approved the Greg Cuoio Park and Greenways Master Plan on February 3.

Lacey’s Largest Park

Launched in April 2021, the master plan includes several phases of work to make the combined 537 acres of Greg Cuoio Park, Pleasant Glade Park and Palm Creek headwaters accessible. The project is located between the Crossroads and Hawk’s Prairie neighborhoods, north of I-5.
