The 114th Massachusetts Amateur will kick off Monday at Concord Country Club and run through Friday as dozens of golfers battle it out for the prestigious state crown.

Notable local fans slated to play include Norton’s Jared Winiarz, the University of Hartford golfer who will tee off at 8:25 a.m. from the 10th hole.

Winiarz shot a 1-under 71 in last month’s Mass Am qualifier at Ludlow Country Club to earn his return to the state championship,

Winiarz played in six tournaments in his junior season with the Hawks, appearing on the roster in four of the six. He finished in the top-15 twice and went under par in three sets. During his senior season, he averaged eight over at the Yale Invitational, tied for 12th at the Hartford Wintonbury Hills Invitational and had a career-best eighth place with a 3 under at the Hartford Hawks. Invitational last fall.

Chad Bearce of Foxboro Country Club will join the local peloton. Bearce, a Foxboro High graduate, hit an even 72 card at Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge to qualify. He is a regular at the Attleboro Area Golf Association’s City Open, where he finished tied for 10th in 2021. Bearce finished 18th in 2020 and 14th in 2019. Member of the University club team Bryant, Bearce to start Monday with first six out, 7:30 a.m. 10th tee off

Thor Van Vaerenewyck, whose home course is Heather Hill Country Club in Plainville, will tee off later today at 1:10 p.m. from the 10th hole. Van Vaerenewyck is another AAGA City Open regular, having played there for nearly two decades. Additionally, Westwood native Dan Howard, who plays at Norfolk Country Club, will be at Concord CC. Howard played college golf at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Last year’s Massachusetts amateur champion Michael Thorbjornsen will not compete in this year’s event after winning 8-6 a year ago. Last year’s runner-up, Matt Parziale of Brockton’s Thorny Lea Country Club, will tee off at 8:47 am from hole #1.

Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue until 2:16 p.m.
