ROCKLAND – Louise V. Knowlton, 97, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Quarry Hill in Camden.

Born in Rockland on October 6, 1925, she was the daughter of Edward R. and Katherine C. Feehan Veazie. Educated in local schools, Louise graduated in 1944 from Rockland High School and in 1946 earned a business degree from Westbrook Junior College. Upon graduating from high school, Louise had the pleasure of receiving her diploma from her father, who was then Mayor of the Town of Rockland.

Throughout her career, Louise has held various hostess and administrative support positions.

On May 18, 1955, she married Richard C. Knowlton in Rockland. For many years, Louise enjoyed her role in supporting her husband’s hotel management work in Massachusetts, Florida, New Hampshire and Maine. Together, the couple retired in 1987 from the Gasparilla Inn in Boca Grande, Florida.

Back in Maine, they enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships of many friends. Travel was an important part of Louise’s life and she enjoyed recounting her travels across the United States and abroad. When she was not busy traveling, she was an active member of the Rockland Golf Club and the Women’s Golf Association. She was also a former member of the Penobscot Bay Medical Center Auxiliary.

Always up for adventure later in life, Louise took many trips with her good friends John and Deirdre Thibodeau. Together they had lots of laughs and lots of fun.

Louise will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her husband, Louise is survived by her longtime friends, John and Deirdre Thibodeau and their daughters, Katie and Megan; as well as a close friend, Betty Joseph of Spruce Head.

A celebration of Louise’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2022, at Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Interment will follow at Achorn Cemetery.
