The new owner of Mason City Country Club was announced at the Mason City Council meeting last week.
Joe Pritchard of Pritchard Companies LLC said his family had recently purchased the facility and land and planned to redevelop the area into a destination golf course.
Pritchard said it was northern Iowa’s worst-kept secret that the Pritchard family had invested in the golf course and country club. “There are a lot of synergies that we can use to showcase our company’s golf car project within the real world setting and purpose of a golf course,” Pritchard said.
In 1915 AG Spaulding commissioned Tom Bendelow to design the Mason City Country Club golf course. Bendelow had designed golf courses all over the United States. The clubhouse followed in 1916.
A full-scale renovation took place in 1974, but by late 2020 it became apparent that the outdated structure, located at 3331 19th St. SW, needed to be demolished. The Clubhouse Cabana was retained to serve refreshments and a light menu.

The Mason City Country Club still holds normal golf outings and membership games. Terry Wisner, chairman of the board of the Mason City Country Club, said the club was owned by its members as a non-profit organization, who purchased it through a capital membership.
Wisner said they made the decision to sell because they were looking for a capital injection and someone who could build a new clubhouse and maintain the golf course.
