Field: In addition to the Longhorns (No. 9 in the latest Division I Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, Nov. 19), the 12-team Southwestern Invitational field includes: No. 2 Arizona State, No. 5 Pepperdine (host), No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 16 Georgia, No. 20 Washington, San Diego State, San Jose State, SMU, UCLA, USC and UNLV.

Last outing: The Longhorns earned a 3-2-1 win over No. 10 Texas Tech on Oct. 13 in the 2021 Big 12 Match Play Championship title game at the Houston Oaks Clubs (Hockley, Texas). It was UT’s first Big 12 Match Play title since the event began in 2018. Texas had wins in Pool B over TCU (4-2-0), Baylor (5-1- 0) and Iowa State (3-0-3) with a 3-3-0 draw against then-No. 2 State of Oklahoma. The tie with the Cowboys gave the Longhorns a total of 10 points to secure first place in Pool B and advance to the championship game against Texas Tech. Pierceson Coody and Mason Nome each recorded perfect individual records of 5-0-0 in match play at the Big 12 Match Play Championship.

PGA TOUR University presented by Velocity Global: The Velocity World Rankings are designed to identify the best college golfers based on their earnings, competitiveness, and performance throughout the season. It includes the last two years of competition in men’s NCAA Division I golf tournaments and official PGA TOUR tournaments. The rankings are updated weekly on Wednesdays and will be finalized on May 30, 2022, following the conclusion of NCAA Championship stroke play. The top five will earn a Korn Ferry Tour membership, while players finishing sixth through 15th will earn a PGA TOUR international tour membership. In the most recent ranking (January 19), Pierceson Coody is No. 2, Cole Hammer is #7 and Parker Coody is No. 27.
