The University of Minnesota women’s golf team kicks off its spring season with a trip to Palm Harbor, Fla. for the Big Ten Match Play Jan. 31-Feb. The event will take place at the 6,344-yard, par-72 Innisbrook Island Golf Course.

The 7th-seeded Gophers play two games on Monday, facing No. 2 Ohio State in the morning first round at 7:15 a.m. (CT), followed by an afternoon game against No. 3 Northwestern or No. 6 Penn State. Minnesota will wrap up the event with a game Tuesday starting at 7:15 a.m.

The ranking for the event was based on each team’s Golfstat ranking after the fall season.

Gophers roster will be made up of juniors Grace CurranSenior Geraldine WongSenior Joanna Freejunior Lea Herzogjunior Emma Charpentier and freshman Alexis McMurray.

The Big Ten Match Play event will consist of a field of 10 teams including Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

The island course offers scenic views and challenging play for golfers of all skill levels. The course features narrow fairways, intimidating water hazards, numerous bunkers, and extraordinary elevation change unusual in typical Florida terrain, and is home to the second highest elevation point in Pinellas County. Guests and members consider the island course to be as demanding, if not more so, than Copperhead. The course has hosted numerous US Open playoffs, NCAA championships and the LPGA TOUR Legends Championship, and has also been ranked among the top 50 resort courses in the nation by Golf Digest.

Minnesota will play its first stroke play event of the spring Feb. 6-8, traveling to Orlando, Fla. for the UCF Challenge.
