The National Alliance for Accessible Golf (National Alliance) is pleased to announce the appointment of Executive Director Dave Barton, PGA. Barton formally accepted the position at the Alliance Inclusion Conference in January and began his term on February 22. He currently resides in Charleston, SC.
Previously, Barton served as Senior Membership and Education Director and Editor of Golf Business Magazine and Golf Business Weekly with the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA). In this role, he led member engagement and growth initiatives, as well as curating and delivering education through print and digital media, the NGCOA website, webinars and live events. and recorded, including Golf Business LIVE and the NGCOA’s annual National Education Conferences.
Barton transitioned into the golf business in 2005 after a 22-year career in the Navy as a helicopter pilot, ending his career with chairman of the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff. He obtained his PGA membership in 2008 and is a PGA Certified Professional in Executive Management. He has held golf operations and management positions at several facilities, primarily with Raspberry Golf Management in the Northern Virginia area, including Head Golf Professional, multi-property management, golf instructor, and facility owner of golf.
While in Northern Virginia, he provided seasonal golf instruction with the Salute to Military Golf Association (SMGA), a national non-profit organization whose mission is to “…provide rehabilitative golf programs, inclusive golf experiences and opportunities for families after 9/11. fight wounded war veterans” and a former beneficiary of the National Alliance.
Barton earned the Professional Accessible Golf Certificate in 2012 established by the Global Accessibility Initiative (Penn State University), SMGA and National Alliance, and has taught at PGA Hope Clinics in the Charleston, SC area.
Asked about the opportunity to serve as Executive Director of the National Alliance, Dave said, “I am humbled by the opportunity to lead an organization that contributes in so many ways across the country to accessible golf opportunities. and inclusive for people with disabilities. The golf industry as a whole benefits by continuing to seek ways to encourage, invite and welcome this diverse population into the game.”

Dave’s industry experience makes him ideal for driving the Alliance and its strategic plan forward.
