Great Torrington Golf Club won the National Junior Club of the Year award. The award was presented during the 70th anniversary celebrations of the National Golf Foundation, London Golf Club.

Two volunteer coaches, Rob Ware and Mark Beer, attended the prestigious award ceremony on behalf of the Club.

Over the past five years, the club has developed relationships with local schools and clubs, enabling children to discover the joy of golf and develop a sense of personal accomplishment. Clarry Dunn has championed the project, working tirelessly to open doors for juniors. The Junior Club meets regularly as a group and lessons are taught by resident PGA Professional Ross Daniel.

Ross was quoted after hearing the news: “It has been a pleasure to be part of the progression of the junior program at Torrington Golf Club. Watching the junior section grow from scratch over the past few years into a very successful and thriving part of the golf club has been very rewarding.

“The award received from the Golf Foundation recognizes the hard work and dedication the golf club has put into its young members and is well deserved.”

Andrew Trythall of Kingsley School added: “The Great Torrington Golf Club invited us for Tri Golf afternoons at their club and the kids really enjoyed their afternoons, learned a lot about golf and some even joined the club afterwards. Thank you Great Torrington Golf Club for providing such a great opportunity for our schoolchildren.

Tom Sparks, Golf Foundation Regional Development Manager, said: “The Golf Foundation is delighted to recognize and celebrate the dedication and enthusiasm that Great Torrington has shown to junior golf.

“In a relatively short period of time, the club has developed its junior section with impressive results thanks to the passion and commitment of its volunteers, manager and PGA professional Ross Daniel.

“The club always embraces an ‘I can do’ mentality and you can be assured of a friendly and warm welcome from everyone at the club. A fantastic environment for any beginner or improving junior golfer, as well as for his family.
