Male Navy Golfers Chad Deegan (Sr/Newport Beach, Calif.), Nicolas Klock (Sr/Moraga, CA) and Keegan Shreves (Jr/Potomac, Md.) have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, it was announced this week by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Navy trio was part of 440 Div. I student-athletes from 157 schools to collect the award and among 12 Patriot League players (Colgate-1, Holy Cross-2, Lehigh-2, Loyola-4) recognized.
To be eligible for the award, an individual must be an academically and athletically and athletically sophomore, junior, or senior in NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA, or graduating associate’s degree and in their senior year sports eligibility to the NJCAA. In addition, they must have appeared in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average below 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum career cumulative average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high character and in good standing at their college or university.
All three Navy golfers were named to the Patriot League’s 2021-22 Men’s Golf Academic Honor Roll earlier this month, while Shreves was named to the Navy’s six-player men’s golf team. All-Patriot Academic League last spring. Deegan and Klock are three-time Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, while Shreves is a first-round pick.
A two-time All-Patriot League standout, Shreves boasts a 3.74 GPA in Quantitative Economics and has been recognized on the Superintendent (1x), Commander (6x), and Dean’s (4x) lists during of his three years at Annapolis.
He appeared in eight best-team tournaments during the 2021-22 academic calendar where he had the second-lowest stroke average (74.96) among his teammates. He posted three top-20 performances, including a 10th-place finish at the Patriot League Championship where he earned All-Patriot League second-team recognition after posting a par 222 of 6 out. Shreves was selected to serve as team captain for the 2022-23 season.
Deegan, captain of the Navy team in the 2021-22 campaign, graduated in May after earning a 3.39 grade point average in quantitative economics. He was named to the Commander’s List in each of his last six semesters, while earning Dean’s List honors four times.
Deegan finished the year with a low Mids shot average, posting a 73.76 among the seven events he appeared in. He also finished his career averaging 73.95 over 59 innings in four seasons and earned All-Patriot League honors in 2019.
Klock also graduated in May and finished her academic career with a 3.59 grade point average in history. During his four years at Annapolis, he was recognized on the Superintendent’s (1x), Commandant’s (4x) and Dean’s (4x) lists.
Klock has produced an average of 75.25 shots among the eight events he has participated in, including the first Jackson T. Stephens Cup where he received a special invitation to participate. The 2021 All-Patriot League star closed out his career with a 76.04 hitting average over 48 rounds.
