Notre Dame-West Burlington’s Kaleb Allen and Mount Pleasant’s Nick Matheney finished second and fifth in the men’s Class 3A golf section at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course on Wednesday and both secured berths in the district tournament.

Solon won the tag team title with just 293 strokes and Washington was second with 325. The two advanced to Monday’s district meet at the Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg.

Mac McCarty of Solon was the medalist with one of 71. Roman Roth of Allen and Washington tied for second at 72 and Jack McCarty of Matheney and Solon tied for fifth at 74.

Allen and Matheny advance in the district because they were the two best individuals not on an advancing team.

Clear Creek-Amana finished third in team scoring with a 329 and was followed by Mount Pleasant (330), Fairfield (350), Fort Madison (351), ND-WB (357) and Keokuk (377).

Joining Matheny for Mount Pleasant were Reece Kempker (81), Ian Hake (87) and Reece Coffman (88).

Carsen Jones (92), Chase Richards (95) and Kody Allen (98) also played for Notre Dame-West Burlington.

Tyler Wade led Fort Madison with an 81. Other Bloodhounds: Brady Wade (84), Brennen Ulik (93) and Emmett Kruse (93). Jordan Sisk beat Keokuk with an 88. Other counts: Nick Profeta (94), Jaydan Thonas (97) and Bryor Lindner (98).

MEDIAPOLIS ADVANCED 3: Three Mediapolis players secured places in the district tournament thanks to their play in the Class 2A section at Tipton Country Club.

The advancing teams are West Branch, which won the section with a 309, host Tilpton (316) and Iowa City Regina (345).

Mediapolis finished fourth in team scoring with 355 and was followed by Durant (371), Wilton (373) and Mid-Prairie (395).

Tipton’s Bob Ryan was the medalist with an even par 72 and teammate Tristin Sorgenfrey was second with a 74. Regina’s Mikey Takacs was third with 75 and West Branch’s Gage Gingerich was fourth individually with a 76.

The movers are Jacob Grier (87), Ben Wolter (88) and Kamden Stotlar (88) of Mediapolis, Warren Scarff (88) of Mid-Prairie and Nolan Townsend (88) of Wilton.

Grant Hilton completed the Mediapolis team’s score with a 92.

Louisa-Muscatine did not have enough players for a team score. Playing for the Falcons were Xander Bieri (93), Gavin Hunt (110) and Braeden Van Auken (112).

VBC BRUCKMAN ADVANCED: Van Buren County’s Riley Bruckman shot a 79 at Gateway Recreation Golf Course in Monroe and earned a berth in Monday’s district tournament.

Albia won the section with a 319 and Pella Christian was second with a 326. The two advance to Monday’s district at Lincoln Valley Golf Course, hosted by West Marshall High School.

PCM’s Grant VanVeen, who scored a 76, and Bruckman qualified for the district meet as individuals.

Pella Christian’s Eliot Menninga was the medalist with a 73.

TIGERS, WAPELLO ADVANCE: New London and Wapello both qualify for the district golf tournament after finishing second and third in the section at Deerwood Golf Course in New London.

Keota won the Sectional Tag Team Championship with a 356. New London was second with 365 and Wapello third with a 383. All three qualified for Monday’s District at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City, hosted by Winfield-Mount Union.

Winfield-Mount Union was fourth with 392, Columbus fifth with 443 and Holy Trinity sixth with 512,

W-MU’s Carter Loyd and Jake Edwards both carded 93 and advanced in the district.

Weston Miller led New London with an 85. Other Tigers: Mason Cole Shelledy (91), Ethan Streeter (92) and Wyatt Miller (97). Casey Short led Wapello with a 91 and was followed by teammates Zach Harbison (93), Cooper Garrison (97) and Dawson Tipps (102).

After Loyd and Edwards for W-MU, Andrew Brown (96), Nick Crow (110) and Griffin Humphreys (110). Robert Coil led Columbus with a 103 and was joined by teammates Cole Storm (104), Grant Watson (112) and Ryan Coil (129). Tyler Snaadt led Holy Trinity with a 107. Other crosses: Cody Briggs (133), Blake Hemann (136) and Andy Mehmert (136).

GIRLS TENNIS

THE EVE GRAYHOUNDS: Burlington High School failed to eject any players from the regional Class 2A tournament in Eldridge.

Ella Gilbert of Iowa City Liberty won the singles title, defeating Mya Messenger of Cedar Rapids Washington, 6-1, 6-2, in the final. Washington’s Kathryn Zylstra and Katelynn Kock won the doubles title, edging Liberty Wickham and Chloe Palmer, also of Washington, 6-0, 6-1 in the final.

Burlington’s Emily Woodsmall defeated Dubuque Senior’s Lacey King, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round, then fell to Liberty’s Leela Strand, 6-1, 6-0. Macy McGinity of Burlington beat Katie Kieu of Davenport North, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round, then lost to Gilbert of Liberty, 6-0, 6-0.

Burlington’s doubles team of Emma Coffin and Grace Hecox won their first round match, 4-6, 6-3, 10-4, over Hanna Mozena and Kaitlyn Blasen of Dubuque Senior, then lost to Liberty’s Olivia Davenport and Lucy Lohman, 6. -1, 6-1.

Brooke Hildreth and Sarah Roe of Liberty ousted Emily Mosley and Jacqui Workman of Burlington, 6-6 (5-7), 6-0, 13-11, in the first round.

DUO PANTHER WINS 3rd place: The Mount Pleasant doubles team of Savana Walls and Melanie Olivas finished third in the regional Class 1A tournament at Fairfield.

Walls and Olivas beat Valls and Valls de Maharishi, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0, in the match for third place. Walls and Olivas advanced beating Sconzo and Williams of Centerville, 6-2, 6-3, and Brittney Kelly and Olivia Rule of Keokuk, 6-3, 7-5. They lost to Bush and Sons of L’Assomption, 7-5, 6-1, in the semi-finals.

Alllison Halligan and Ella Dilulio of the Assumption won the doubles championship and Mary Rolfstad of the Knights was the singles champion.

WEST ILLINI 7, BROWN COUNTY 4: Bradyn Robertson went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Chargers past Brown County.

Tanner Freeman, Drake Mudd and Colby Robertson each doubled for Illini West. Bradyn Robinson was the winning pitcher,
