Five PGA TOUR sanctioned events will award places to next year’s 150th St. Andrews Open, the R&A said on Wednesday. The Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, the John Deere Classic, the RBC Canadian Open, the Genesis Scottish Open and the Barbasol Championship are all on the 2022 Open Qualifying Series schedule.
150th Open in St. Andrews, five events
The Arnold Palmer Invitational, John Deere Classic and Genesis Scottish Open will each offer three qualifying places. Two spots at the Open will be available at the RBC Canadian Open, which will be played for the first time since 2019, and the Barbasol Championship will provide the final spot on the field at St.
Andrews. The Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard will be played March 3-6 at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida. The RBC Canadian Open is scheduled for June 9-12 at St. George’s Golf & Country Club in Toronto.
Deere will be played June 30 through July 3, two weeks before the Open, at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. The Barbasol Championship and the Genesis Scottish Open will be played simultaneously in the week leading up to the major final of the year.
Both events are co-sanctioned by the PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour, meaning they will count towards points races from both circuits, the FedExCup and the Race to Dubai. The Barbasol Championship will be played at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky., While the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, will host the Genesis Scottish Open.
The Irish Open and the Dutch Open of the DP World Tour will both award three places to the Open. The Open Qualifying Series 2022 consists of 16 events in 11 countries.
Three players have already booked their places through the Johannesburg Open, the first event in the series, which was played in South Africa last month.
The SMBC Singapore Open will be the next chance for golfers to qualify for the Stage Championship at the Home of Golf when played in Sentosa from January 20-23.
A minimum of 46 places at the Open are available through the series, which offers golfers the opportunity to qualify at events around the world on the PGA TOUR, the DP World Tour, the PGA Tour of Australasia, the Asian Tour, Korean Tour, Japan Golf Tour and Sunshine Tour.
For the first time, the New Zealand Open on the PGA Tour of Australasia will be part of the series when it takes place at Millbrook in Queenstown from March 31 to April 3.
Three qualifying places will be offered at the New Zealand National Championship.
Four places will be offered at the Mizuno Open in Japan and two places at the KOLON Korea Open.
The regional qualifying events will take place at venues in Great Britain and Ireland on June 20.
A minimum of 12 spots will then be available at the final qualifying events to be held at the Fairmont St. Andrews, Hollinwell, Prince’s and St. Annes Old Links on June 28.
