WALLACE, North Carolina – The Kennesaw State Women’s Golf Team heads to North Carolina for the UNCW-hosted River Landing Classic.

The Owls enter the tournament after winning the first Team of the Year at the Rio Verde Invitational. The team finished 12 strokes ahead of second place and Caitlyn Campbell Nyman won the individual championship, carding a 5 under 211 in the three-day event.

Campbell-Nyman was named ASUN Golfer of the Week on Thursday.

The two-day tournament will feature 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday with 12 other teams on the course.

River Landing Classic 13-Team Field
Boston, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Elon, James Madison, Marshall, Richmond, USC Upstate, Charlotte, UNCG, UNCW and William and Mary join the Owls on the course for the two-day event.

New owl in charge
In June 2021, Erin Thorne was named head coach of the women’s golf program. Before coming to KSU, she was the head men’s and women’s coach at Wingate, as well as the director of student-athlete development. She led the Bulldogs to six tournament championships and was a three-time South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year.

The list
This year’s list includes several familiar faces. junior Bella Kil, Tori Owens, Meva Schmitand Alizee Vidal return, as well as second-year students Caitlyn Campbell Nyman and Lara Jecnik. The only new player is Cameron Neilsonwho joins the team after spending his first season at Kent State.

Defending ASUN Champions
The Owls begin the 2021-22 season hoping to win their fourth consecutive ASUN Championship. They captured the 2020-21 ASUN title after finishing 30 strokes ahead of second place North Florida.

After the trip to Tar Heel State, the Owls will return home to host Pinetree Women’s Collegiate at Pinetree Country Club from Monday, March 21 through Tuesday, March 22.
