AVONDALE, Ariz. — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team posted six of seven best scores, scoring 28 over par 316, to claim the four-team SMSU Challenge team title that was held at the Coldwater Golf Club on Thursday. .

SMSU won the title by 31 strokes over Bemidji State (347), followed by Minnesota Crookston (353) and MSU Moorhead (355).

SMSU’s Sally Gallagher took medal honors with a 4 of 76, while teammate Courtni Frank finished in second place with 5 of 77.

Gallagher, named NSIC’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, finished Thursday with two birdies and 11 pars, while Frank recorded a birdie and 10 pars.

The Mustangs’ Jacqueline Gossen birdied and made 10 pars to finish third overall at 8 of 80, while SMSU’s Ashley Trongard finished one shot behind Ashley Trongard, who recorded a birdie and 10 pars en route to a fourth place 9 out of 81.

Anneke Weg and Sydney Noel, both playing as individuals for the Mustangs, finished tied for fifth with scores of 11 of 83. Weg finished the round with nine pars, while Noel birdied and seven starts in recording his best round of a career.

Danielle Podoll finished 15th overall with a 17 of 89 with a pair of birdies and four pars to complete SMSU’s team play. Lauryn Driscoll, also playing as an individual for the Mustangs, placed 19th at 19 of 91, which included seven pars.

SMSU will be back in action April 11-12 at the Wayne State College Classic at Wayne Country Club.
