Just weeks after Nintendo finished developing content for Animal crossing: new horizons, the Camelot team has now officially released the last of its major updates for Mario Golf: Super Rush.

It adds new playable characters Shy Guy and Wiggler (yes, Wiggler). Two new levels: Shelltop Sanctuary and All-Star Summit, and two new modes – “Target Golf” and “One-On, One-Putt”. Along with that, there are a number of game balance tweaks and general updates.

Below are the full patch notes, courtesy of Nintendo’s official support page:

Worm. 4.0.0 (Released November 23, 2021)

  • Added a playable character, “Wggler”
    • Wiggler has been added as a playable character in matches. He’s a power type character who uses his long body to send the ball farther.
    • When he uses a special shot or is attacked, he will become mad and turn on for a while:
      • The ball’s flight distance increases by 1.1 times.
      • In “Speed Golf”, in addition to the distance, the running speed and the speed of Special Dash will be increased by 1.25 times. Additionally, the Special Dash will change from a direct shot to a special shot that hits the ground and sends out a shock wave.
    • Its special shot has the effect of detonating bullets from its point of impact, as well as the surrounding area, due to the impact of berries that are thrown with it.
  • Addition of the playable character “Shy Guy”
    • Shy Guy has been added as a chooseable playable character in matches. He’s a well-rounded and versatile character who is easy to use in any situation.
    • His Special Dash uses the help of the Fly Guys to keep him in flight until his gauge is depleted or a button is pressed. Use it at the right time to gain an advantage over your opponent.
    • Its special shot has the effect of blowing bullets around its point of impact.
  • Addition of a golf course, “Shelltop Sanctuary”
    • Addition of the complete “Shelltop Sanctuary” course, composed entirely of short holes.
    • Shelltop Sanctuary, where Cheep Cheeps fly back and forth, is a short course with all of its 18 holes being a Par 3.
    • Two difficulty levels can be selected: “Amateur” and “Pro”. Switching from one to the other will dramatically change the location of the green.
  • Addition of a golf course, “All-Star Summit”
    • Added the full “All-Star Summit” course, which uses illustrations from Mario and others as a motif.
    • This course features familiar characters and the green and bunker design is different from other courses, so you can use a different kind of strategy.
    • Brick blocks scattered throughout the course can be broken by hitting them with a special shot or dash. Break them to acquire coins that recharge your energy.
    • Climb above the clouds found on the course to travel to the opposite banks, or buy Star Coins to fully recharge your energy.
  • Addition of a new mode, “Target Golf”
    • A new mode that allows you to play with only tee shots, without needing to know the detailed rules of golf.
    • Players take turns shooting a total of five bullets at a circular target, competing for the highest score based on points awarded based on position hit. The closer the ball is to the center of the target, the higher the score will be. However, if another player scores in an area first, the area will not be scored until the board is reset. During the game, the types of balls can change and high scoring targets appear that offer a knockdown chance.
    • Can be played with motion controls.
    • In the To play golf menu, you can play against four other players with a single Joy-Con on a single Nintendo Switch. You can also play against four other players in Local play and To play online.
    • In the Solo challenge menu, you can also play solo challenge content Solo Score Challenge, Target Golf. The challenge is to see how many points you can score before missing three times, as the ball type and wind direction change.
  • Added a new mode, “One-On, One-Putt”
    • One-On, One-Putt has been added to Solo Score Challenge, a mode in which you have to hit the green on the first shot, then put in the cut on the second shot. The first shot must be on the green and the second shot must be in the cut.
    • You can play this mode on New town of Donk and Shelltop Shrine, which consist of short courses only, in Amateur and Pro configurations, respectively. In Shelltop Shrine, There is a Special difficulty level this requires you to use a special club for each hole.

    • Adjusted the number of coins that fall around you when attacked.
    • When attacking another player with Special Dash, coins dropped by the opponent will now automatically be collected.
    • Stamina consumption when rushing with button B has been reduced.
    • When the stamina is completely exhausted and the B button is kept pressed, after a certain time the stamina recovers and the player can start running again, even if the B button is kept pressed continuously.
