WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW men’s golf is tied for fourth after a round at the Williams Cup following strong first-year performances Mitchum Gray and junior Walker Isley Friday at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington.

Host North Carolina, who is ranked ninth nationally, holds a six-stroke lead over Louisville after one round of play. NC State is third and Michigan State is tied with the Seahawks, who have recorded 16 birdies in the first round and played par five to four under holes, for fourth place.

Michigan State’s Drew Hacket and Kent State’s Jordan Gilkison are tied for the lead at two under.

Mitchum struggled on his front nine, finishing at four points, but he rallied on the back nine of his round, birdying four in his last six holes to move into a tie for 11th by one point. Mitchum finished the round with five birdies, a tournament high.

Isley, meanwhile, finished his first round one over and enters the second round on Saturday tied for 11th.

Patrick Sparks completes the Seahawks in the top 20, closing its first 18 holes at two over and tied for 16th.

The second round of the tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The Seahawks will be paired with Michigan State and Kent State.
