Viktor Hovland had a superb 2022, with the 24-year-old claiming arguably his biggest victory at the Dubai Desert Classic. After the victory he had a superb run at the 150th Open Championship, but a disappointing finish meant a T4 finish.

Now, having taken some time off from St Andrews, Hovland’s game still appears to be in great shape, with the Norwegian’s return to Norway and the stunning Lofoten Links where he reportedly broke a course record 63.

Located on the remote Norwegian island of Gimsøya, Lofoten Links is a fairly difficult golf course to reach – but well worth it if you put in the effort, with the beautiful setting making it one of the most incredible courses in the world and a definite bucket list golf course.

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and vast white-sand beaches, the course itself is also quite special, with a brilliant design offering a firm but fair challenge. At a latitude of 68 degrees north, go in mid-summer and you can play golf in Lofoten 24 hours a day.

Posting Hovland’s arrival on their social media, Lofoten Links posted some videos and photos of the young Norwegian, who was on the island with a group of friends at first sight.

Playing a few rounds at the Links, one featured a course-best 63 around the par-71 layout, with Hovland seen snatching a few shots from the back tees. While it’s unclear when he’ll return to competition, it’s likely to be at the FedEx Cup Finals, which kicks off in a few weeks with the FedEx St. Jude Championship Aug. 11-14.

Currently, the 24-year-old sits 19th in the FedEx Cup standings, with Hovland safely advancing to the final where the top 125 qualify. In the final, the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings move past the FedEx St. Jude Championship and from there, after the BMW Championship, the top 30 advance to the Tour Championship.
