The WKU women’s golf team finished tied for eighth on Tuesday afternoon at UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fla. Junior Sarah Arnold placed in the top 20 for the Lady Toppers.
“I was pleased with our performance in the second round yesterday,” WKU head coach Adam Gary said in a press release. “I wish I could have closed a little better today, and that’s something we’re going to learn from.”
WKU played the first two rounds on Monday, shooting 15 of 303 in the first round and 2 of 290 in the second round. It was the best second-round performance of any program in the tournament. Arnold shot 3 of 75 and 1 of 71 while three other Lady Toppers were tied for 29th with 150 combined shots for the two rounds.
For Tuesday’s final round of play, WKU hit three 2s of 74 and a 3 of 75 for a team total of 9 of 297 for the final round score. Arnold’s 3 of 75 counted for the Lady Toppers and they finished tied for 19th with a 5 of 221.
Fifth-year senior Olivia Reed and rookie Faith Martin hit 74 and tied for 29th with a final round of 8-for-224. Both were just one stroke away from cracking the top-25.
Sophomore Rachel Rich improved by eight shots from her second and third rounds, shooting 74 for the final round. Senior Kenlie Barrett tied for 33rd with a 3 of 75.
“We’re staying in Florida this week, so hopefully we can take advantage of this time and do a good job before our own tournament,” Gary said. “We know this course and I can’t wait to see what we do.”
The Lady Toppers will take to the green for their annual Spring Break Shootout on Monday and Tuesday.
