CROZET, Va. — The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee men’s golf team scored 292 (+8) in the first round on Friday and sit fourth out of 11 teams at the ODAC Championship held at Old Trail Golf Club.
Hampden-Sydney, ranked 19th nationally, holds the first-round lead after the Tigers finished -2 of 282. Roanoke is second with a 287 (+3) and No. 26 Lynchburg is third with a 288 (+4).
Roanoke’s Sean Furlong and Lynchburg’s Eddie Coffren tied for the individual lead after both scored -3 of 68. They were among five players who finished with red numbers on Friday.
Junior Pierce Robinson (Kings Mountain, NC / Thomas Jefferson Classical) and first year Will Braxton (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) are the top overalls after the first round. Both golfers posted a +1 score of 72 and are among seven players tied for seventh out of 55 golfers in the event.
Second year cannon crane (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents’ Episcopal) is one stroke back and his 73(+2) is tied for 14th. Senior Austin Sharett (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Latin) is tied for 26th with a +4 score of 75 and junior Caleb Choe (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) is tied for 31st after finishing with a 76(+5) on day one.
The action continues Saturday at the Old Trail Golf Club. The teams will play 36 holes in an effort to avoid the bad weather forecast for Sunday.
