ATHENS, Ga. – University of Houston women’s golf ranked 12thand place after the first round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course Friday night.

The Cougars posted a team scoring 308 on the 6,317-yard, par-72 course. The tournament features 12 of the top 40 programs in the nation, including seven of the top 20.

Senior Annie-Kim posted a 74 and was tied for 23rd lead the Cougars, while a sophomore Delaney Martin was tied for 40and at 76 years old. Second year Nicole Abelar tied for 48and after the first round at 678, while senior Maria Jose Martinez tied for 62n/a at 80 years old. Senior Ariana Saenz was tied 78and at 84 years old.

No. 3 Texas and No. 16 Texas A&M tied for the team lead at 293. No. 17 Arkansas came in at No. 3 with 294, while No. 4 South Carolina was fourth with 295. No. 12 Alabama (299), No. 13 USC (299), No. 38 Louisville (300), No. 31 Georgia (301), No. 22 Mississippi (302) and No. 30 Mississippi State (303 ) complete the Top 10.

Alabama’s Polly Mack, USC’s Michael Morard and Mississippi State’s Julia Lopez Ramirez tied for the first-day lead at 2-under 70. Hana Ryskova of Louisville and Hailee Cooper of Texas A&M tied for fourth at 71.

The second round begins Saturday morning with the final 18 holes Sunday.

For Saturday’s second round, the Cougars will face off in groups with student-athletes from Mississippi, starting with number 10 at 12:17 p.m. CDT.

Saenz starts the day at 12:17 p.m. (CDT) with Martinez (12:26 p.m.), Abelar (12:35 p.m.), Martin (12:44 p.m.) and Kim (12:53 p.m.)

FOLLOWING
After the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, the Cougars close out their regular season when they face off against the Bruzzy at Winstar Golf Club in Thackerville, Okla., April 11-12.


From there, Houston takes its first steps into the playoffs when it competes in the American Athletic Conference Championships, which take place April 17-19 at Pinehurst #6 – Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, NC.


The Cougars will learn their NCAA playoff fate on the draft show, which airs at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, on the Golf Channel.


Seventy-two teams and 12 non-team members will compete at six NCAA regional venues across the country. These sites include Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, CA); Vanderbilt Legends Club (Franklin, Tenn.); The championship course at UNM (Albuquerque, NM); University of Michigan Golf Course (Ann Arbor, Michigan); Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.) and Seminole Legacy Golf Club (Tallahassee, Florida).
