JOHNS CREEK, GA. – Second year Ginevra Zavagli (Rome, Italy) is 6 over par after two rounds and lifted Seton Hall’s women’s golf team to 10and standing room with 18 holes remaining at the 2022 Georgia State Spring Invitational.
Zavagli was tied for the individual lead after using three birdies to power up a 1-over-par, 73, in the first round. In round two, she shot a 5-over, 77. Currently, she is tied for ninth among 90 individual golfers at 6-over with a 73-77-150.
As a team, The Hall managed to reduce their first-round score by seven strokes. The Pirates shot an over-par 19, 307, in the second round. They are currently in 10and place with a 45 over par, 314-307-621. Hall trails team leader Eastern Kentucky by 18 strokes entering Tuesday’s final round. Xavier, Seton Hall’s only BIG EAST competition, is currently tied for third at 33 over par.
Senior Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, California) had a pair of birdies and 13 pars as she reduced her first-round score by five strokes in the afternoon. For the tournament, she is tied for 19and place at 9-over-par with a 79-74-153.
First-year student Ana Sarrias Pro (Cádiz, Spain) made the biggest jump of the day. After an 11-over-par, 83, in the first round, she shaved seven strokes to finish with a 4-over-par, 76, in the second round. For the tournament, she is tied for 42n/a place with a 15 over par, 83-76-159.
Only one shot behind Sarrias Pro is graduate student Margot Bechardergue (Aix-en-Provence, France). Bechadergue shot a pair of 8-over-par, 80, and tied for 48and up with a 16-over-par, 80-80-160.
To complete the formation of the Pirates on Monday, it was Ludovica Busetto (Padua, Italy). The junior is currently 18 over par for the tournament after an 82-80-162.

THE LESSON:
The centerpiece of Rivermont is the 18-hole championship golf course originally designed by Joe Lee, which underwent a complete overhaul by golf course designer, Michael Riley in 2006. The upgrades transformed what was already an excellent layout and a run into one of the most critically acclaimed. course in Georgia today. For the past forty-seven years the course has maintained the integrity and beauty of the natural environment and continues to challenge low handicap players as well as new players. Continuous improvements over the years, particularly in 2015-16 and 2019-20, have helped to elevate Rivermont’s reputation with golfers both locally and nationally.
Rivermont has had the honor of hosting nearly thirty United States Golf Association qualifiers (local qualifiers for the US Open and sectional qualifiers for the US Senior Open, US Mid-Amateur, US Women’s Mid -Amateur and the Men’s Four-Ball Championship) as well as more than a dozen Atlanta Amateur Championships for the Georgia State Golf Association. We have also hosted events for the Georgian Section of the PGA, the Atlanta Junior Golf Association and the Southern Golf Association. In 2018 Rivermont hosted the Georgia State Golf Association Junior Championship in June and in 2019 Rivermont Golf Club received the award for “Best Golf Club” in Johns Creek. In 2023, Rivermont will host the Georgia State Amateur Championship.
FIELD
Besides Seton Hall and host Georgia State, the field is made up of 13 other teams, including: Arkansas State, Boston College, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe , Oral Roberts and Winthrop. Xavier, competitor of BIG EAST, is also in the game.
THE FORMAT
Teams will compete against five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
DEPARTURE TIMES
The course will play two continuous rounds on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. On Tuesday there will be a final round, also with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Seton Hall will be paired with golfers from Lipscomb and Houston Baptist. in the first two rounds.
